at the Tyrone Guthrie Theater: John
Brinsley Sheridan's Hypocrites,
hysterics and hilarity abound in Richard Brinsley Sheridan's
brilliant satire The School for Scandal, which launches the
Guthrie's mainstage season June 23. Staged by Artistic
Director Joe Dowling and designed by Frank Hallinan Flood,
The School for Scandal skewers 18th century London society
that feeds on gossip, rumor and back-biting in a manner that

Mississippi
Boat Cruise The
Great Steamboat Era began in 1811 with the launch of the
New Orleans and by mid-century, the rivers teemed
with paddlewheel steamers. During the Civil War, civilian
traffic came to a standstill and many, including Mark Twain,
thought that the era of steamboating was over. In fact, it
was during the post-war years that steamboats
thrived. While
the steamboat era is a page in history, it is a page that
can be reread as we board an authentic sternwheeler- the
pride of the 19th century- for a cruise down the
Mississippi. The swish of the paddlewheel and blast of the
whistle will delight the group as they enjoy the sights
along the River. This
Minneapolis River cruise travels the Upper St. Anthony Falls
Lock, which is the nothernmost lock of the 29 on the
Mississippi and is the deepest- a descent of 50 feet. The
area is abundant in both history and commerce with old St.
Anthony, where Minneapolis began, on one side and the
spectacular downtown skyline on the other. The cruise takes
you under both the new Hennepin Avenue Bidge and the
historic James J. Hill Stone Arch Bridge. Today
we will relive those glorious days when America was young. A
time when the building of a nation and the establishment of
the states was directly influenced by the great inland
waterways. It will truely be a trip with a "Steamboatin'
state of mind!" Time:
1:15 pm - 4:00 pm Cost:
$49.00 per person An
